As we inch closer to Record Store Day 2021 Drop 1, which takes place on Saturday 12th June, the excitement is palpable Special thanks to those of you who have taken to social media to tell us the records you're most looking forward to picking up; the lists are as varied as they've ever been! Following on from Record Store Day 2021 Drop 1 Staff Picks - Part 1, we've got another five selections that should tick your boxes, starting with an exclusive variant from none other than the ambassador of Record Store Day 2021.
1) Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds: Back The Way We Came Vol. 1 2011-2021 - Coloured 2LP
With Noel Gallagher acting as the ambassador for Record Store Day 2021, it's only fitting that we open today's list with this RSD-exclusive variant of his new compilation Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021).
This double album, curated and compiled entirely by Noel, includes tracks from three number albums and the three acclaimed EPs plus two previously unreleased tracks including the brand new single ‘We’re On Our Way Now’.
"10 years of The High Flying Birds? Blimey! Just think of all the things I COULD have done in that time!" - Noel Gallagher
The Record Store Day 2021 edition of Back The Way We Came is a limited edition numbered, hand-pressed, coloured double LP with exclusive art print, released on Noel's own Sour Mash Records Ltd. imprint.
The full range of Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021) album formats are available on the official Noel Gallagher Store.
2) Prince: The Truth - 12" Vinyl
In a vast mine of diamonds and pearls, The Truth is widely regarded as one of the Purple One's most underappreciated hidden gems. The record was the first Prince album to be labelled 'acoustic', giving listeners the chance to hear his songwriting and voice in a stripped-down setting.
The twelve-track album was originally released as an accompaniment to the 1998 triple album Crystal Ball, which marked the first time that Prince released an album totally independently.
"The Truth is one of Prince's most consistent, intelligent and interesting records of his later career." - SputnikMusic
This Record Store Day 2021-exclusive release marks the first time The Truth is available on vinyl with gorgeous, foil-embossed artwork designed by Prince’s long-time art director Steve Parke.
3) Marc Bolan & T. Rex: Star King - Coloured Vinyl
Following the previous Record Store Day releases Bump ‘n’ Grind and Shadowhead, Star King compiles rare ‘working’ and ‘master’ versions of T. Rex favourites, such as 'Born To Boogie' and 'The Groover' plus a previously unreleased track. This series of RSD-exclusive albums provide insight into Marc Bolan’s creative process whilst keeping the essence of the music in its classic form, with all material sourced directly from the original master tapes.
"Marc Bolan’s passions included the blues, soul, rock ‘n’ roll, hard rock and disco-soul, and his intent to explore these genres are all visited on this collection of classic album tracks and singles." - Demon Records
Issued on vinyl for the first time, Star King is limited to 2000 units and pressed on 180g coloured vinyl on Demon Records.
4) Everything Everything: Supernormal / Mercury and Me - 10" Coloured Vinyl
‘Supernormal’ and ‘Mercury and Me’ is the first new music from Everything Everything since the release of their fifth album Re-Animator which emerged to widespread critical acclaim last summer with many hailing the band’s visionary cocktail of intricate experimentation and immediately accessible art-pop. This special 10" version of the 'Supernormal / Mercury and Me' single also includes remixes of tracks from Re-Animator from Foals and IOE AIE. Watch the 'Supernormal' video, which was directed and animated by frontman Jonathan Higgs, below.
"You’ll come away from watching it questioning everything and you won’t even be able to explain what you’ve just seen – but that’s why Everything Everything bring so much to the music scene." - The Edge
'Supernormal / Mercury and Me' will be released on 10-inch Berry & Green Splatter on Milky Clear Base vinyl for Record Store Day 2021 on Infinity Industries / AWAL Recordings.
The full range of Re-Animator formats and merchandise are available on the official Everything Everything Store.
5) The Jaded Hearts Club - Live At The 100 Club
On Monday 3rd June 2019 The Jaded Hearts Club, a ‘supergroup’ comprising of Matt Bellamy (Muse), Graham Coxon (Blur), Miles Kane (The Last Shadow Puppets), Nic Cester (Jet), Sean Payne (The Zutons) and guitarist Jamie Davis joined forces to play an intimate show at London’s famous 100 Club.
Live At The 100 Club was recorded at the show (the band's first-ever London gig) which was organised in memory of guitarist Jamie Davis' late father, selling out almost immediately. The live album will be re-released for Record Store Day 2021, following their debut studio album You've Alway Been Here.
"Overall, this live album is great from start to finish. The track list is absolutely phenomenal, and having this as a setlist is a wonderful idea to keep listeners hyped until the end." - Square One Magazine
Live At The 100 Club is due to be released by Infectious Music in the form of a transparent 12" disc, especially for Record Store Day 2021.
A range of The Jaded Hearts Club formats and merchandise are available on the official The Jaded Hearts Club Store.
