RSD 2023 takes place this Saturday (22nd April) in-store at Townsend Records with the remaining titles available online at Townsend Music Store at 8 PM on Monday 24th April. We've put together a list of our favourite releases from the drop and added links directly to the Product Pages, ready for you to bookmark for the big moment.
The Prodigy
For Record Store Day 2023, Cooking Vinyl are proud to release a special remix version of The Prodigy’s 4th album Invaders Must Die, their 4th consecutive UK No. 1 studio album from 2009. Eight of the ten tracks are making their first appearance on vinyl, and two of them are previously unreleased – a remix of their hit single ‘Omen’ by UK Beats/Metal trio PENGSHUi, plus a live version of ‘Take Me To The Hospital’ captured at Alexandra Palace, London.
Invaders Must Die is the first Prodigy record where, given the departure of Leeroy Thornhill, all band members took part in the creative process.
The Prodigy’s Liam Howlett put together the track list and it features new artwork designed by long-time Prodigy collaborator Luke Insect – the album is being made available as a limited edition release on 180g orange coloured vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.
Garbage
Presenting an exclusive Garbage release created especially for Record Store Day 2023! 'Witness to Your Love' is a song written for inclusion in the fifth volume of the Give Listen Help charity compilation in 2008. It’s also the first song Garbage released since Absolute Garbage.
Shirley wrote the song for Morag Williamson, a childhood friend that had just lost her husband David due to a viral disease. In Michael Pedersen’s book Boy friends Shirley said this was her favourite song inspired by friendship or grief.
Presented on vinyl for the first time, this 12’’ single includes the rare track ‘Witness to Your Love’, and three previously unreleased tracks. The release has been pressed on transparent coloured vinyl and is accompanied by exciting, vibrant artwork.
Sea Power
This RSD-exclusive Picture Disc version of Sea Power's UK-charting album features the beautiful painting on the cover of the original. In 2022 the band formerly known as British Sea Power became just Sea Power and then had their highest-charting UK album. Everything Was Forever entered the Official UK Album Charts with a midweek of number one and then settled at a final position of number four.
Sea Power began writing songs in late 2019, but this was interrupted by the COVID-19 Pandemic and the album was completed in phases.
Everything Was Forever was influenced by the deaths of Jan and Neil's parents, with the single 'Two Fingers' being a tribute to their father and for the first time since 2011's Valhalla Dancehall the band worked with producer Graham Sutton.
Haircut 100
Demon Records are delighted to announce the release of Haircut 100% Live! Hammersmith Odeon Spring 1982 for Record Store Day 2023, released with full cooperation of the band. Haircut 100% Live! Hammersmith Odeon Spring 1982 is an in-concert album that highlights the group at the summit of their powers; high-speed funk, to-die-for pop, and sweet melodies against the backdrop of "Haircutmania".
The group moved from being London underground darlings to chart sensations in less than six months, and within a year had disappeared into pop’s ether.
This recently unearthed recording was part of the acclaimed Pelican West 40 CD set. It includes their cover version of set opener 'Low Rider' by War, where the group all appeared on stage one-by-one. Inner bag contains snapshots taken at the Hammersmith gig and aftershow from guitarist Graham Jones’ personal archive.
Ocean Colour Scene
Rounding up all the B-sides, demos and rarities Ocean Colour Scene released when the band was riding the crest of their popularity over the course of 1996, B-Sides: Seasides & Freerides illustrates the depth of the band’s ambition. Primarily comprised of acoustic material, the set includes a demo of 'The Circle', a fine, stripped-down version of 'The Day We Caught the Train', the neo-prog-rock of 'Huckleberry Grove' & the funky instrumental 'Chicken Bones and Stones' which features Paul Weller on organ.
Often abbreviated to OCS the English rock band formed in Solihull in 1989. They have had five top 10 albums including a number one in 1997. They have also achieved seventeen top 40 singles and six top 10 singles to date.
There’s also a live cover of 'Day Tripper" that features Noel Gallagher on guitar and Liam Gallagher on vocals. B-Sides: Seasides & Freerides is pressed on 140g blue vinyl in a gatefold sleeve and complete with printed inner sleeves exclusively for RSD2023.
Porcupine Tree
Porcupine Tree presents a 12" of tracks pulled from the In Absentia and Deadwing deluxe editions, previously unreleased on vinyl. Tracks include 'Drown With Me',
'Chloroform', 'Revenant' and 'Mother & Child Divided'. Formed by musician Steven Wilson in 1987. During an initial career spanning more than twenty years, PT earned critical acclaim from critics and fellow musicians, developed a cult following, and became an influence for new artists.
“Music that is sad melancholic, depressing, is in a kind of perverse way more uplifting." - Steven Wilson.
In Absentia is the seventh studio album by British progressive rock legends Porcupine Tree, first released on 24 September 2002, with Deadwing, their eighth studio album, released in Japan on 24 March 2005 and quickly becoming the band's best-selling album at the time.
Many more Record Store Day 2023 titles are set to be available from Townsend Music Store including Suede – Demos Clear Vinyl, A Flock Of Seagulls – B-Sides & Rarities Clear Vinyl and Björk – 'Ovule' (Sega Bodega Remix) / 'Atopos' (Side-project Remix) Clear Vinyl.
Record Store Day 2023 releases will be available in-store at Townsend Records on Saturday 22nd April and online will be on the Townsend Music Store at 8 PM on Monday 24th April.
