Red Hot Chili Peppers released their seventh studio album, Californication back in 1999. The album was produced by Rick Rubin and saw the return of guitarist John Frusciante. To mark the 25th anniversary of this landmark album, a limited edition Red & Ocean Blue Coloured Double Vinyl could be yours as part of Townsend Music's giveaways. Give it away now!
Californication has since become the band's best-selling album, driven by the success of three hit singles: 'Scar Tissue', 'Otherside', and 'Californication'. The album has sold over 15 million copies globally and is a multi-platinum record in the UK.
Having formed in 1982, RHCP released numerous albums before Californication, which marked a pivotal moment in their career. This album solidified the band's status in the rock world and helped maintain their momentum into the new century.
While Californication retained the band's signature skate-punk sound and image, it also showcased a more vulnerable side, with lyrics reflecting personal and professional struggles. The band adopted a laid-back approach to writing Californication, with much of the album being crafted in bassist Flea's makeshift garage studio.
"Everyone was having fun. It was as if we had nothing to lose, nothing to gain. We didn't care; we were making music for the sake of making music" - Anthony Kiedis
